MUS Welcome Week (Frosh) is a three night, two day event that introduces new BCom students to the City of Montreal, McGill University and the Desautels Faculty of Management at the beginning of every school year. It is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year, and MUS has a reputation for hosting the best frosh on campus!
Frosh is all about first year students. Our leaders go through a very competitive interview process, and as a result only the best student representatives are selected to introduce first years into the BCom community.
Check out the website for Frosh 2009 "Frosh and Robbers"
Want to get involved? Apply to be a frosh leader in March!
*N.B., MUS frosh is by no means a hazing or an initiation of any sort.
It goes by many names: 4 to 7, quatre/sept, 4-7, that party in the basement on Thursdays that disrupts all of the 4:00 classes. Whatever you would like to call it, come down to the Bronfman concourse (basement) on selected Thursdays to celebrate the end of classes for the week.
Enjoy inexpensive drinks, good friends and good tunes with your fellow BComs and other students from across campus. Check out the 4 Ã 7 dates for this year on the MUS Calendar or in the MUS agenda, and make sure that you start off your weekends right!
What time does it start you ask? . . . Maybe you should consider transferring to Arts.
Ballroom is back! That's right - the magnificence of the Shatner Ballroom will soon be upon us.
Ballroom Parties are held within the first few weeks of each semester, to give us something to look forward to after Frosh and Carnival have ended and we are hitting the books once again. The parties are always themed and costumes are a must. It's a great chance to venture outside of the Bronfman building to the Student Society Centre (the Shatner Centre), and experience another part of campus. As well, First Year President election results are announced at the first Ballroom Party of the year, in September.
Tickets will be sold in advance at 4 à 7s, in the Bronfman Lobby and at the door. Check the MUS calendar for this year's dates.
Winter Carnival is a seven day, seven night competition that takes place at the beginning of every winter semester. With annual participation of over 500 students, Carnival is one of MUS's largest events.
Students organize themselves into teams of 50 to 60, with 3 to 4 team captains. Teams then compete throughout the week in a variety of activities, such as scavenger hunts, walking rallies, laser tag, iron chef, dodge ball and eating contests. Spirit points are extremely important – teams are encouraged to come up with original cheers, dances and skits. You don't even have to wait until January! Carnival Hype Week will take place in early November to get everyone pumped for the main event.
Carnival is not for the faint-hearted. It tests your stamina, endurance, speed and ability to go without sleep for long periods of time. It is also one of the best times that you will ever have in your life! The friendships that you make during Carnival become lasting friendships. When you reflect on your life 50 years from now, you will feel a great sense of accomplishment in saying
"I participated in Management Carnival."
If you are in first year and have no idea what we're talking about, join a team or create your own. If you have never participated in Carnival before, but would like to give it a try, sign up as a "free agent" and you will be placed on a team of like-minded individuals.
If you've done Carnival before, or to phrase it more accurately, Carnival has done you, don't worry – January will come soon enough. In the meantime, get those creative juices flowing. Plus, Hype Week will be here soon.
There are plenty of teams out there looking for free agents. Alternatively, you can form your own team with 3 – 4 captains and start recruiting! Keep an eye out in October for more Carnival news on the MUS website and check out the Carnival site for more information.
It's that time of year again folks! If you're looking to get active, compete in charity tournaments, represent your faculty, meet other management students and strut your athletic stuff at 4 à 7, then SIGN UP!
For new management students, this is a GREAT way to get to know other students in your faculty.
