Academic

Both the Graduating and U2 Case Competitions are multi-disciplinary case competitions that give students the opportunity to synthesize their theoretical knowledge and create connections with the corporate world.

Each competition is comprised of a 3-hour case crack, followed by a 20-minute presentation and 5-minute Q&A in front of a panel of judges from sponsoring companies. During this time, teams of 4 must effectively use their academic and interpersonal skills to produce creative solutions addressing issues in their respective disciplines. Outstanding teams are recognized at the closing awards ceremonies.

If you are interested in competing in either competition, you can create your own team of 4 or sign up as a free agent. Check the MUS website for more details in late September and October.

Graduating Class Case Competition - SEPTEMBER

The GCC follows a multi-disciplinary format, allowing students in their graduating year to compete within their area of specialization. The three fields that have been selected for this year's competition are: Finance, Marketing and International Business/Strategy.

The GCC provides a unique opportunity for graduating students to showcase their talents to members of the corporate world and make valuable connections with sponsoring companies. This is an excellent recruiting opportunity!

U2 Case Competition - NOVEMBER

The U2CC is a single disciplinary competition that involves one general case, but follows a similar format to the GCC. This competition gives students in their second to last year of studies the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge, and make contacts with sponsoring companies. This presents an excellent opportunity for summer intern recruitment.

DMLS – the Desautels Management Leadership Seminar – is an annual two-day event exclusive to first year students. Held every March, this event seeks to develop the leadership skills of McGill's future business leaders.

The first day consists of a series of guest speakers from several different fields. This is an invaluable opportunity to learn about leadership firsthand and to network with industry representatives. On the second day, we host a dynamic case competition. Teams are split up into groups of 4 to 5 and given a case to "crack". The teams then present their respective solutions to a panel of judges from sponsoring companies. This is a great opportunity for first year students to practice their critical thinking and presentation skills, and to network with peers and representatives from the corporate world.

If you're in first year, you don't want miss the event of the year!

Come out at the beginning of the fall semester to mingle with professors and enjoy some free drinks and pizza. This is a great way to get to know your profs in a relaxed setting before midterms are in full swing.

U0 students are encouraged to come to this event as well to meet your future professors.

Look for posters and check the MUS website at the beginning of the semester for more info!

Not sure what to major in? Come out to the Majors and Concentrations Fair and speak to professors and advisors about the numerous programs that Desautels has to offer. If you are a U0 or U1 student, this is particularly important for you!

Keep your eyes open in March for more information and make sure to check out the MUS website.
